Are you tired of trying to "just get over it"? It is possible to heal! My focus for treatment is trauma counseling including treatment of Complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders.I trained with Colin Ross, MD, at his inpatient trauma treatment center in 2000-2001. This training prepared me for helping with depression, anxiety, and other trauma related conditions.
In all the settings in which I have worked, I have been an advocate for the clients and patients with whom I worked. I have opposed the purely medical model. Why? Because I believe that people are more than their symptoms or diagnoses. For over 20 years I have studied what is now called "trauma-informed" approach and applied this way of thinking in my work with clients.
This work does not have to be a "downer". I use a wellness and recovery approach. Invest in yourself and contact me 619.807.9159.
If you plan to use insurance benefits, please call your insurance company and confirm that I'm a provider for your plan.
I approach the treatment of trauma-related conditions with the knowledge that we’ll first need to establish safety through our relationship and building a set of coping skills that work for you. The second stage is to process through your story and help you re-interpret what it means to you. Last, we work to help you more fully connect to your chosen community. These 3 stages overlap and develop organically, according to your needs, not a preconceived plan.
You may have noticed that I don't use the term "mental illness". When thinking in terms of "injury" I don't see you as "sick" and needing life-long "treatment". Your strengths and resiliency, as already demonstrated by your survival of trauma, are used to help you recover or, for some, discover your best life. Too many people have been labeled "mentally ill" and seen as disabled, by the purely medical model's sickness culture.
