I've been sitting here for a solid five minutes trying to think up a good first sentence, but I'll get straight to the point. I was going through a difficult chapter of my life, and I sought out someone who specialized in what I was going through. I googled for therapists, and Lorna was one of the three that looked most promising. I had to find someone quickly, so I left a message for her and two others. The truth is that after seeing her website I really only wanted to see her and I am so thankful that she is the first one who called me back. During our first appointment I laid out what I thought was my situation and what my dilemma was, and she started asking me all these questions that didn't seem to relate to what I was going through. What the hell was the problem with her, I thought? I have a very difficult decision to make and the deadline is coming up. Why is she asking about my parents? Then after maybe twenty minutes I had the first of many epiphanies that I have had while talking with Lorna, and I have been seeing her ever since. Her bedside manner (couch-side manner?) is perfect for me. Empathic and caring, but also no-nonsense and very blunt, with a kind of toughness (almost combativeness) when I am deceiving myself that is the perfect antidote. I don't mean to make her sound aggressive or grouchy, because she's not, but she is just very direct in a way that really clicks with me. She is also very present during sessions; she seems like she is working as hard as I am talking about whatever we are talking about. She is extremely insightful; I've passed through my very difficult time, but I've continued to see her because I enjoy the sessions so much. I wish my family lived closer, because they need her too! So she specializes now in marriage and family counseling, but she is awesome for any type of therapy. I can't say enough about how great she is, and would strongly recommend her to anyone.
