I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, with a specialization in Cognitive Science, from Michigan State University, and a Master's Degree in Psychology, with a focus on Health Psychology, from Alliant International University in San Diego. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University, focusing on health, psychophysiology, and mind-body science.
I am Board Certified in Biofeedback (BCB) and perform both research and clinical work using Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback. HRV biofeedback is a way to teach "self-regulation" of the nervous system, helping it restore balance, which ultimately impacts our physical, mental, and spiritual well being. I am an advocate of holistic approaches to health, and deeply honor the role of somatic (body) work in treating mental health.
My psychotherapeutic approach is based largely from a mindfulness and compassion-based orientation. I am also interested in more analytic work, including dreams and archetypal psychology. Therapy sessions might include meditation, biofeedback, "talk" therapy, or a combination of any of these. I believe that presence, compassion, and nonjudgmental witnessing on the behalf of the therapist creates the foundation for healing.
