Dr. Stephanie Abel is a Registered Psychological Assistant (PSB94021445) working under the supervision of Dr. Silva. She earned her Ph.D. in 2014 from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in San Diego, CA. Dr. Abel has worked with patients from a variety of cultural, ethnic, racial, age and socioeconomic backgrounds with difficulties including: anxiety, depression, substance abuse, addiction, adjustment challenges, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, PTSD, schizophrenia, crisis management/stabilization, chronic pain and injury, personality disorders, legal issues, difficulties in relationships, and coping with loss and grief.

Her training experiences have included employment at the following: the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) conducting research and providing therapy for individuals who have severe mental illnesses, Practical Recovery Inc. providing inpatient group and individual therapy to people with substance abuse problems and associated psychological issues. Additionally, Dr. Abel provided support and crisis intervention to patients at Bayview Behavioral Health, Paradise Valley Hospital and Jary Barreto Crisis Center. Dr. Abel has also conducted court-mandated Child Welfare Services and Juvenile Hall psychological evaluations as a registered psychological assistant. Her training and experiences have developed Dr. Abel’s abilities to provide compassionate and culturally-sensitive therapy for individuals and groups as well as perform psychodiagnostic assessments to inform treatment objectives.

At PNBC, Dr. Abel conducts individual therapy to adults who experience symptoms related to work injury, chronic pain, adjustment difficulties, anxiety, and depression. She also administers neuropsychological testing for Dr. Silva’s evaluations and is gaining knowledge in neuropsychology.

According to Dr. Abel, “I believe therapy is all about building a supportive relationship so an individual can gain insight into aspects of their life, feel more empowered to tackle challenges, explore past and current relationships, and develop greater levels of self-acceptance, coping, and balance in life.” Furthermore, she believes “there is no limit to what you can achieve when you have support.”
