I retired at the end of May this year, and so converted to a Medicare network dental insurance provider. When I notified my prior dentist, a a Union Square dentist with whom I had been a loyal and conscientious patient for 15+ years that I was now on Medicare dental insurance, to my great surprise and disappointment his office’s response was “We don’t take Medicare insurance.” No effort was made whatsoever to refer me to a dentist they trusted who did take Medicare based dental insurance. Aside from the under-tone of discrimination against Medicare dental patients, I quickly searched my new Medicare dental insurance web site to find a new dentist. I found Dr. Mercedes Tan just a few blocks from our home (close enough to walk!) and I am so very pleased with my first appointment with Dr. Tan and her team. I was pleased with the new patient intake process that was friendly and efficient. I was happy that Dr. Tan personally handles the teeth cleaning and checkup that my former Union Square based dentist delegated to dental assistants. And I was the most happy with Dr. Tan’s willingness to answer all my questions and make me feel comfortable that I could have a reliable dental relationship for years to come. And she never once asked me about Medicare. In fact when I mentioned that I was a Medicare dental insurance patient, Dr. Tan simply said, “Oh! Why does it matter when I am a dentist and you need dental care?” Thank you Dr. Tan!!!!!!!

I started seeing Dr.Tan about 1.5 years ago since I haven’t went to the dentist is a LONG time. Initially I was sort of afraid and scared since I never really liked going to the dentist.. but Dr. Tan and her team made me feel extremely comfortable and welcomed! I'm a new patient of Dr Tan, I've been going to Dr Tan for the past 2 months for my loose & broken teeth extractions, and I'll be coming back for my partial replacement, Dr Tan is a very experienced & knowledgeable Dr, I'm a big baby when it comes to going to the dentist, she's very gentle with me, I'm very satisfied with all her answers to my dental inquiry, she also tried to work with my time sensitive schedule, her office is very clean and organized and that's all you'd need when going to the dentist in my opinion. I've read 1-2 reviews saying her office dated (FTI) it did not look dated to me, it seems to me these people are more concerned about the high tech office look then a good Dr, I'd much prefer a caring & knowledgeable Dr then a high tech office, that said I'll keep going to Dr Tan unless she change how she takes care of her patients
